♪music♪ lee liller: good morning, myname is lee liller i'm with the city of rockville. we are heretoday to show you our sl-rat it's a new machine that the cityof rockville purchased. it's basically a device that allowsus to send sound waves through
how much does it cost to snake a main drain, our sewer main to give us areading on whether, or how clogged up our sewer system is. we're getting ready to take you all on a ride-along of our dailyroutine of the sl-rat and maintenance of the sewer mainsthroughout the city of rockville
so let's go. basically we go to two manholes, we pop both lids, we stick the sl-rat downinside of both holes. we hit the start button basicallyletting the system run its course sending the sound wavesthrough the manholes, basically, it bounces off of each othergiving a reading. narrator: these readings rangefrom 0 to 10, 6 through 10 being-
lee liller: - good numbersbecause it's indicating that the pipe's clear. narrator: - and 0 through 5 – lee liller: - indicating thatthere's something logging the pipe. i'm starting the test. as you can hear the sound's now starting. [tones] okay, now, the test is over. i'm going to proceed to pull the machine out, closethis manhole up and we're going
to proceed up the street and seewhat the number was. technician: i had that in andmine came up to a 7. lee liller: so we got a 7 asour reading. a 7 is telling us that the pipe is pretty muchclear. technician: before the citypurchased this we usually used a camera truck. since these camealong it makes it a lot easier, you can cover more area. lee liller: and we just put inthe numbers that we got that way we know that this section's beendone.
technician: we can probablycover 6,000 feet with this
machine to where doing a fullday of camera i can only go ahead and cover you know, 1,500feet. all right, and we appreciate you all coming outtoday and hopefully see you all again.
