over the years,i've caught snakes in all kinds of funny places. but i've never ever caught ablack mamba in a swimming pool. [shuts car door] i'm thinking, youknow, how the hell would you get a deadly snakeout of a swimming pool. susie: hi. how are you? - ok.- ok.
susie: oh, it's an empty pool.- empty pool. ok.susie: oh, that's handy. very. [unlocks gate] [? [inaudible] ?] thank you. thanks very-- oh, yes. simon (voiceover):great big swimming pool. no water in it at all,but in the shallow end
is a massive black mamba. the black mamba canreach over 14 feet long. and this one isn't far off it. it's a highly strungand unpredictable snake, especially when cornered. if that's not bad enough,it's also the fastest snake in the world, and could coverthe length of this empty pool in about eight seconds. oh, yeah, and just one bitecan kill me within 20 minutes.
simon: how long hasit been in there? about five or seven minutes. ok, cool. susie: oh, ok. all right, well,he's not going anywhere for a minute, so-- i've never caught a blackmamba in a empty pool. it's quite unique. all right, you ready?
susie: it was absolutely huge. it's probably the biggestblack mamba i've ever seen. the snake feels cornered. it feels threatened. this is gonna be a really,really dangerous job. black mambas areexcellent climbers. they're as good on the groundas they are in the trees, a very agile snake. a very, very dangeroussituation, because now
we're walkingtowards it, and it's gonna start getting nervous. yeah, found a nice big one. simon (voiceover): it doesn'tget more dangerous than this. it's slippery, it's open,and if this thing bolts, it'll get both of us beforewe can even reach the steps. don't get too close. susie: and it's a real[inaudible], isn't it? don't go too close.
susie: it's gonna get pissedoff with us, i know that. simon: oh, it's gonna getvery upset in a second, but anyway, gottaget it out of there. ok, guys, just mind yourself. susie: mouth is openand look at that. yeah, he's gonnahave a go in a minute, but just mind yourself there. the black mambo will openits mouth as a warning sign. it's a defense mechanism.
it's saying, danger,keep away from me. i mean big business. i decided to completelyignore that warning and catch it anyway. [chuckles] it's all right, snakey. if he suddenly goes,guys, just get back. he's gonna go. ok, sue, [inaudible]from anywhere.
there, it's a big one. it's-- susie: it's strong. simon: just hold.don't do anything. don't let him go.susie: good. [gasps] [bleep] simon: yeah, exactly. i'm about to catch thiswith my other hand.
all right.no, no, wait, wait, wait. susie: i'm good.i'm holding simon: i see it.now just keep it there. mind yourself. simon (voiceover): this thing is8 and 1/2 feet of pure muscle. susie: still holding. i'll still hold it. simon (voiceover): if susielets go, we're both dead. this black mamba is so strong,it's impossible to control.
i have to grab it.
simon: i haven'tgot it very nicely. susie: watch yourself.watch yourself underneath. simon: ok, upsidedown this time. i've got it.
