(silence) (music) so the gophers have finally... its been gosh i don't know a couple months since i've had any in the backyard gettin close to the garden. so what i do is i keep 'em under control. i was watch'n some videos from the extension office and basically he said that there's
how to repel snakes in yard, usually only a couple per area so once you get 'em under control they're pretty easy to maintain and it's been working good. ihaven't had any in my garden and it's rigghhhttt... right there's my garden. so umm this guy looks like he's head'n up that way so i don't want to get 'em, get 'em to close. he kinda snuck in here i didn't notice him. i usually...
i usually get to them before the get in, getout of the big grass over here. umm, when they start getting out of this stuff and intoour mowed area is when i usually try to get 'em. so yeah that's what i'm going to do istrap this guy. i got another one way up in the front by the fence but he's not bothering me too much right now i just try to keep them out but as soon as i see these mounds i go for them. all you need is a stake, or a piece of rebar or something long that you can poke. one of these green traps from tractor supply or home deport or where ever. they're like $9 bucks for two and then a garden shovel. just find your fresh mound then start poking around. actually i'm gonna... think i'm gonna go with this one down here. he looks better. just find the mound and start poking around
until you find the hole. so alright you got the little plug ball right there so you know its right there. there we go. when you find it the shovel should just kinda follow the hole. get enough out of the way that thetrap will go off. see now i can get that shovel all the way down in there. i'll show you that. alright, so as your diggin it you'll see this shovel starts to fall and it goes right into the hole. so you know you're in there now. you always want to keep your stake, stab it in a little bit, tie a string to your trap, otherwise if it doesn't kill it rightaway it'll drag it back down into the hole and you'll never know if you got it or not.it's kinda like a mouse trap just backwards
push down opens 'em up then you flip thisup to hold it once you get it hooked onto the front here. they're pretty strong so keep your fingers away from the little points cause sometimes it will go off when it catches.alright, then you just... if it doesn't go in easy dig some more out but i got that one deep enough that it looks like it's just fine. so i'll put it right there and then usuallya couple hours. i'll come back and check it. then just wrap that string around it thathe can't take it off. umm, usually it'll be caught and like i said i'll check in a little bit. ok, let's go check our gopher didn't get to it last night cause we went to church before anything happened and of course my
video ran out of battery so umm i had to take the camera off of watching it. soo anyway can't tell if those are new holes over there.right there that one might be a new hole but forgot to count yesterday i'll have to lookat the video i don't think so. we got here hummm, never seen the trap pulled out like that before. the hole doesn't look filled in like normal when i don't get it. when idon't get it they usually fill it back in pretty good. that ones still got some space in it. it didn't go off all the way. it didn't release the whole thing so it didn't get him. it got stuck like that about half way. probably too much dirt down there.
looks like i got something. drug it down in the hole though so it might still be alive. yep.
so there it is gopher... that's how you catch 'em. an no he's not alive. anyway first time wegot him. that's a big'n for the pocket gophers. so see here's what he did. this new one hadalready dug all of these and then phil ran over these two holes yesterday. so they didn'ttake long for them to tear up your yard.
